Catherine Healy is a lifelong resident of Jersey City and a respected attorney, public servant, and advocate for working families. With over 15 years of experience in criminal law, labor relations, and social services, Catherine brings a wealth of knowledge and deep local roots to her candidacy for Ward D Councilwoman.
Public service runs in her blood. Her father, Mayor Jeremiah Healy, led Jersey City from 2004 to 2013, instilling in Catherine a lifelong commitment to justice and civic leadership. Today, she proudly continues that legacy by standing up for Jersey City residents in every role she holds.
Catherine holds a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law, a Bachelor of Arts from Catawba College, and a Certificate in Professional Mediation from Cornell University. She currently serves as Deputy Director of the Hudson County Department of Family Services and Reintegration, where she manages labor relations, supervises legal teams, oversees the Child Support and Paternity Program, and ensures vital services reach residents in need.
Her background includes serving as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, where she tried criminal cases ranging from narcotics to attempted murder. She also founded the Healy Law Office, a pro bono defense practice for those caught in the justice system without adequate means for legal representation.
Catherine is running for City Council to bring responsive leadership, fairness, and accountability back to Ward D. Her priorities include:
“I’ve spent my entire career making government work for the people it’s supposed to serve,” Healy says. “From growing up in the Heights to raising my own kids here, Jersey City has given me everything. Now, I’m ready to give back.”
Catherine has been recognized as a 2019 Jersey City Woman of Action and the 2025 Jersey City Irishwoman of the Year. She is a proud mother of three, an active parishioner at St. Nicholas Church, and a longtime supporter of youth athletics, the arts, and Catholic education.
Jim McGreevey calls her “a critical force for good,” noting that Catherine’s legal expertise, community values, and dedication to fairness make her a powerful advocate for Jersey City’s future.
