Born and raised in Jersey City, Jennise Sarmiento has dedicated her life to public service, community empowerment, and the safety of her neighbors. A respected Sheriff's Officer Detective with the Hudson County Sheriff's Office, Jennise brings over seven years of experience in law enforcement, specializing in community policing, officer training, event safety coordination, and investigative work.
Certified in Mental Health First Aid, Active Shooter Preparedness, and Hazardous Materials Awareness, Jennise is not only a protector of her city but a proactive advocate for crisis response readiness and mental wellness.
Beyond the badge, Jennise is a proud Latina and a passionate leader in Jersey City’s civic and cultural life. She currently serves as President of the Young Women of Excellence Mentoring Program and Vice President of the Jersey City Puerto Rican Arts & Culture organization. Through these roles, she has mentored hundreds of young women and helped organize events that celebrate culture and inspire future leaders.
Her campaign for At-Large Councilwoman is rooted in five key priorities:
“As a proud Jersey City native, my faith in God guides me and my love for my son motivates me,” Jennise says. “I’m running because I want to restore the sense of belonging and community that shaped my childhood here—where neighbors cared for one another, streets were clean, and kids played safely outside.”
Jennise Sarmiento is proud to join Jim McGreevey’s citywide team of leaders committed to making City Hall work for everyday families. Together, they aim to build a Jersey City that works for everyone.
