Team McGreevey seeks to build upon policy positions and “action” steps that will result in meaningful, discernible change for Jersey City families.
We are announcing the formation of ten (10) steering committees that will engage the Jersey City community.
1. Municipal Finance, Budgeting, Governance, & Administration Committee
Oversees municipal budgeting, tax policies, fiscal planning, legislative, and policy-making. Implements “best practices” to maximize financial compliance and ensure sound budget and cash flow processes. Includes a focus on Audit & Performance Evaluation and Ethical Standards Board.
2. Public Safety & Community Policing Committee
Enforces “best practices” for the Jersey City Police Department (JCPD) and the Jersey City Fire Department (JCFD), updates the JCPD website, implements mobile data terminals (MDTs) and automated license plate readers (ALPRs) in patrol cars, establishes mobile police stations, and establishes Project Green Light for security cameras in businesses. Includes focus on Disaster Preparedness & Resilience, Traffic Enforcement Bureau to establish JCPD Walking/Biking Units, Tractor Trailer Enforcement Unit, Motorcycle Squad, visible parking permits, e-bike licensing and registration, Community Policing, and 911 Call Center Modernization to enhance training, technology, protocols for improving coordination between civilian call-takers and uniformed police. Considers the high population density that can lead to rapid fire spread, the interconnectedness of infrastructure, the complexity of building designs, limited evacuation pathways, the possibility of multiple fires occurring at once, a heightened risk of civilian injuries, difficulties in navigating through heavy traffic, and the restricted space for fire apparatus to maneuver.
3. Health & Human Services Committee
Oversees public health initiatives, Jersey City Medical Center, Christ Hospital, and mental health services. Collaborates with local hospitals, healthcare providers, and nonprofits to ensure comprehensive care for our children, seniors, veterans, and those persons suffering from mental illness, including establishing mental health step-down units, expanding mental health crisis intervention programs, and enforcing ARRIVE Together implementation. Includes a focus on Homelessness & Housing Services, Senior Resources, Substance Use & Recovery Services, and Veterans Resources.
4. Housing, Planning & Urban Development Committee
Regulates land development and urban planning. Enforces zoning standards, updates zoning laws to increase density in high-need areas surrounding transit hubs, updates the Affordable Housing Portal, establishes sustainable workforce, affordable, and senior housing developments, ensures community-centered planning, develops groceries in food deserts and applies for grants to off-set development costs. It focuses on landlord/tenant relations to enforce the tenants’ Bill of Rights and provide legal services for renters facing disputes.
5. Transportation & Infrastructure Committee
Oversees public transportation (the Hudson-Bergen Lightrail, the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH), NJ Transit Bus Lines), biking, pedestrian, and car infrastructure, including roads, bridges, utilities, the waterfront, and public spaces. Operates a resident complaint line to ensure timely repairs and improvements.
6. Environment & Sustainability Committee
Develops and implements climate action plans, green initiatives, and sustainability policies to reduce the city's environmental footprint. Maintains public parks, community centers, and outdoor recreational spaces. In collaboration with community partners, expands free programming for seniors and families.
7. Education, Youth Services, and Recreation Committee
Develops an “action plan” to partner with Jersey City Public Schools (JCPS) and the Jersey City Board of Education (JCBOE) regarding literacy, school construction, and after-school programming. Supports youth mentoring, entrepreneurship and financial literacy, job readiness training, and summer employment initiatives, and oversees school safety improvements, including crossing guards, security upgrades, and traffic control around schools.Increases recreational opportunities, including the expansion of soccer, cricket, baseball, and football fields, promotes volunteer leadership to serve in a directional capacity, and outlines plans for specific recreational centers and programming, similar to Woodbridge Community Center. Includes a focus on Youth and Family Services, fostering vocational training, career preparation, and internship opportunities through partnership with Hudson County Community College (HCCC), trade schools, and local businesses, PreK Services, Improving Literacy to support reading programs across age groups, English language levels, and disability statuses, and
8. Arts, Culture, and Community Engagement Committee
Strengthens civic participation through town hall meetings, public forums, and multilingual outreach efforts. Improves access to city services through digital platforms, an updated CityofJerseyCity.gov website, social media, and community newsletters. Develop awareness campaigns on housing rights, public safety, homelessness, mental health, and senior and veteran services. Support local artists, city art projects, cultural events, and historic sites.
9. Faith-Based Initiatives Committee
Collaboration with the Church Community to provide faith-based economic development, affordable and workforce housing, and neighborhood needs. Successful partnerships are demonstrated by Brooklyn’s Nehemiah Housing and Harlem’s Abyssinian Development Corp. Nehemiah, initiated by local clergy, has constructed over 3,000 homes in East Brooklyn since the early 1980s.
10. Business Development Committee
Supports attracting industry clusters, job creation, business growth, and workforce development. Connects major corporations and small businesses with state and federal grant opportunities and fosters partnerships between businesses and the City. Addresses key industry clusters and works closely with Special Improvement Districts (SIDs) to advocate for, partner with, and support small and medium-sized businesses within the SIDs throughout the City. Provides Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to local SIDs to enhance and improve services in partnership with Jersey City. Our SIDs will become a cornerstone of our local neighborhood community.
